Get Your Pool Summer-Ready with These Easy Tips from the Experts at Church Pool Services
When the Houston heat hits, nothing beats cooling off in your backyard pool. But before you dive in, it’s important to make sure your pool is just as ready for summer as you are. A little TLC now can save you time, money, and stress later – and keep your water looking crystal clear all season long.
At Church Pool Services, we’ve seen it all, and we’re here to help! Here are our top five tips to keep your pool sparkling, safe, and swim-ready all summer long:
1. Keep the Water Moving
Good circulation = happy pool.
Your pool’s pump and filter are the heart and lungs of the system. Running your pump for at least 10–12 hours during the day helps distribute chemicals evenly, prevent algae growth, and keep your water fresh. Be sure to check your pump basket and filter regularly for debris, and clean or backwash as needed.
2. Skim, Brush, Repeat
Leaves, bugs, and random debris have a way of crashing the pool party. A quick daily skim goes a long way in keeping your water looking inviting. And don’t forget to brush! Weekly brushing helps prevent algae buildup and keeps your pool walls and steps clean.
Pro Tip: Don’t skip the corners! They’re sneaky spots for buildup, especially in low-circulation areas.
3. Balance Your Water Chemistry
Balanced water isn’t just about sparkle, it’s about safety.
Test your water at least twice a week, and keep these key levels in check:
- pH: 7.4–7.6
- Chlorine: 2.0-5.0 ppm
- Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
If your levels are out of whack, you could end up with itchy skin, red eyes, or worse – equipment damage.
Not into test strips and numbers? We’ve got you covered. Church Pool Services offers expert chemical balancing with every visit.
4. Watch the Water Level
Between summer heat and splash-happy swimmers, it’s easy for your water level to drop. Keep the water at the midpoint of your skimmer to ensure proper circulation. If it dips too low, your pump could start pulling in air. High water levels can be a problem too, especially after heavy rain. Keep an eye on it and adjust as needed.
5. Leave the Maintenance To Us
Even if you’re a DIY pool pro, some tasks are best left to the experts. Our team at Church Pool Services offers full-service pool maintenance tailored to Houston’s unique conditions. From chemical testing and equipment checks to thorough cleanings, we keep your pool in peak shape.
